I have a burden to help clean up the National Forests. I don’t know where it comes from. I was a slob as a teenager. Pretty sure my mother cleaned up about 15 spit cups from underneath my bed when I moved out to college. I’ve never been a clean freak. But for some reason I have a compelling interest in keeping our roads and forests clean. Whether it will help keep the trails open, protect wildlife, or just keep everything from looking so trashed, it is in me to do this. We stop constantly and pick up things every time we go out – which is pretty often.
This was the first dedicated trash run that my wife and I did. That the sole reason that we went out this day. I contacted the Winona District of the Ouachita National Forest. The nice lady there sent me a map outlining the most needed areas. We started with FR 83 just west of Hwy 7. It was awful. It took me almost 30 minutes to pick up everything right at the beginning of the road where it intersected with the highway. But that’s ok. We did it. We are TrailGuardians. We are committed to this. It was a great day.
