Day 1 was filled with great joy and wonder. It has been several years since I have traveled out west specifically to the state of Colorado in the summer. I had been in Ohio for the past several days and had taken a 5:30 a.m. flight back to Little Rock in order to get home quick and hit the road for this 17 hour journey. I left Conway around noon and headed that way. The sun started going down on me close to Amarillo and the sunset was so beautiful I had to snap a few photos. I stopped at an abandoned casino somewhere in NM around 2 a.m. and slept for a couple hours and then continued on. I arrived heading up the Million Dollar Highway around sunup and then to Ironton Campground to join Jube some time around 9 .m. Setting up camp was pretty rough as the air was thin and I was very tired. But I made it and wouldn’t trade that time for the world.
